Article DOI: doi.org/10.51316/icech.hust.2025.97

The globalization of higher education has increased international student enrollment in Vietnam, yet cultural integration remains a significant challenge. This study investigates the role of on-campus support services at the International School of Vietnam National University (VNU-IS) in facilitating international student adaptation. Using a mixed-methods approach with surveys and interviews of 38 international students, the research identifies both strengths and limitations of existing services. Students expressed high satisfaction with faculty support and extracurricular opportunities, which foster cultural adaptation and belonging. However, gaps persist in academic adjustment and access to services such as dormitories, transportation, cultural exchange, Vietnamese language classes, and career counseling. Lastly, this study also recommends implementing conversation-focused Vietnamese language modules, piloting phased dormitory upgrades with common spaces, and establishing structured intercultural buddy programs, which can be immediately actioned to improve international student experiences.
